Trautman, Michael - PhotoMichael Trautman has been a leader in the dental distributor business for the past nine years.  His experience and passion for the dental industry landed him the Regional Manager position three years ago at the Henry Schein Detroit, Michigan center and is currently the San Antonio, Texas Regional Manager.

Henry Schein awarded Michael with the KOTC (Knock Out The Competition) Champ Award for signing up the most clients during the winter of 2009.  Before Joining Henry Schein, Michael received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Professional Golf Management at Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  This will come as no surprise given his major, but Michael has a deep love for golf.  His favorite movie is Caddyshack, and he is also reading How Great Golfers Think, by Bob Skura.

Michael loves all sports from golf to football.  He is a huge fan of Marv Levy, retired head coach for the Buffalo Bills football team, because he respects how Marv Levy communicated with his players, “I’m a sports nut, and Marv Levy took his team to the super bowl four times.  He really was able to get his team to listen to him.”  As a Regional Manager, Michael exercises his listening skills by paying attention to the ideas and needs of each team member.  The well being of customers is important to Michael, so he reminds his team of the importance of taking care of their customers.  Michael says, “The worst thing you can do in business is not follow up with customers.”  Quality service goes a long way and will benefit everyone according to Michael, so you’ll often hear him say, “When you do well, we do well!”

Michael is not a stickler for perfection because he understands that mistakes happen, but he believes anything is possible with the right attitude.  Michael’s wife Paty Vega Trautman is proof of this.  Paty moved from Mexico to the United States and at the time spoke very little English.  Her “can do” attitude made it possible for her to learn the English language, have a successful career, and balance work and family life.  Finding time for family and career is important to Michael.  “My idea of perfect happiness is great health for Paty, myself, and our families and also finding time to balance work and leisure time.”

Family life and career also come together for Michael because his mother Amy Trautman works for Henry Schein as a Field Sales Consultant.  This mother and son team has helped contribute to the success of both Henry Schein and Straine Consulting.  Michael believes that Straine Consulting has helped him grow as a manager.  Michael explains, “Kerry Straine has a philosophy that works.  I have learned to listen to what my customer’s want, while showing them the possibilities for their business are endless.  This has made me a more successful manager.  Straine Consulting helps dental professionals create a strategic plan for their business, so they not only know the necessary changes that need to be made within their practice, but they’ll know what policies to implement in order to execute change.”
